Prepare Your Tree for Recycling
There are a few things you must do to make your tree ready for RECYCLING.

1. Remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other NON-Organic decorative materials. This includes tree stands also.
2. Cut tree in half and place at the curb – next to the green waste container.
3. Flocked trees will need to be chopped-up and disposed with regular solid waste.
4. Trees will be collected curbside for two weeks after Christmas.
5. FREE Drop-off locations are available for county residents (see list below)
6. If you miss the collection period, cut-up the tree and place it in the green waste container for pick-up on the regularly scheduled service day.

Reduce Your Holiday Waste
Many households are addressing holiday waste by changing their habits and finding different solutions to the increased waste created during the holidays. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Styrofoam packing peanuts can be donated to shipping companies like Mailboxes Etc. or UPS stores. Call Plastic Loose Fill Hotline for others 1-800-828-2214.
2. Reuse and store gift boxes and ribbons for other future occasions.
3. Purchase rechargeable batteries.
4. Remember, household batteries can no longer be landfilled and you must take them to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection. For more information call 1-800-304-2226.
5. Make unique gift tags from old greeting cards.
   Send used greeting cards to charitable organizations that use them for projects to raise funds. St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude’s St., Boulder City, NV 89006-0100
6. Donate extra calendars to residents at care facilities… and say hello while you are there.
