Emergency Stop System (E.S.S.)

Landfill Equipment is equipped with a state of the art communication and “Emergency Stop” (ES) system.  The ES system is installed on all Department heavy landfill equipment and heavy vehicles.  The ES system not only provides clear communication for all equipment operators and ground staff, but also provides the ability for any employee to activate an “Emergency Stop” and immediately bring all equipment in their vicinity to a stop.  When the ES system is activated a loud audible alarm and flashing red light is set off in the equipment.  This ES system is used whenever any employee on the ground or operating equipment sees a potential accident or hazard. This system was designed by Department employees and is the first of its kind for the industry.
